New stumps

Well, since I've only been back into bonsai for a year, I have stumps.....no progression yet.

First two are parsley hawthorn. I topped them off in place in the swamp last spring to see what they would do. Being a novice, I cut them way too high and didn't get much low growth. The last pic is a hackberry. It was full height when I collected it. All three were collected in late Jan. of this year.

I like them!
I rarely go collecting... mainly due to time restraints, as well as not having sufficient space to have a whole bunch of collected material sitting around waiting to grow.

With that said, often I find that when I obtain a piece of material someone has collected, that I wish they had left an area longer than they did and cut a little higher. You can always cut more later, but can't put back what has been removed.

Until, you know for certain where you would like to take a piece of material, it doesn't hurt to leave it long!
