Making this thread to store and see all sorts of interesting life from burn scar areas.

Although the photo below shows a dead tree I find it gorgeous and would love to recreate this scene at some point!

How would you all go about it?

You can see the tree had been significant at some point with it's primary branch going off to the side until the fire that hit this area (I think 2015? Areas healed nicely) removed most of the base and primary trunk leaving a small branch that took over until the tree could no longer persist!

Photos don't seem to show off the hole in the center under the primary growth unfortunately

A shame! Truly would have loved to see this tree when it was alive....

Maybe I'll see about growing a wisteria off of the dead tree at some point... Could be interesting project at the very least.

shari or rot over a long period of time + carve for the organic form. torch for char effect.

it's possible if you have a large amount of dead wood to smoulder a charcoal or cinder to sort of bore a whole in wood. I've seen references to this. likely need to keep away from living tissue. wood burning tools generally use a very hot iron / metal rod to smoulder the wood instead of an open flame etc.

Fantastic idea!

there's a section on using fire for shari in the bonsai today book in junipers as well.
