Does anyone know if there is a listing of local things to do, bonsai and otherwise, during the Artisans Cup??

The Japanese Garden is a must see. You can take a narrow gauge train to the Rose Garden and Portland Zoo from there as well I think. If you have a car, head east on I-84 thru the Columbia Gorge. Spectacular scenery, waterfalls and the transition from west coast conifer forests to high desert ecosystems in about an hour's drive one way. The Portland people will have plenty of other good ideas, believe me.

Spend a night at Timberline lodge, and hike up around Mt. Hood. Beautiful old lodge (the outside of the lodge was used in "The Shining" film) great bar.
Try not to drool on yourself.

I'm a classical musician by trade, and I'll be performing a benefit recital for the Portland Bonsai Village on Saturday night during the cup. The event will soon be listed on the Artisans Cup eventbrite page here: http://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-artisans-cup-tickets-15968308641

All proceeds of the recital will go towards to Portland Bonsai Village. Mike Hagedorn is my bonsai teacher and helped me organize the concert. Some of his personal bonsai will be displayed on stage while I perform, and I'm doing a few nature inspired works. The concert will take place at the Portland Piano company, (711 SW 14th Ave Portland, OR) and will be from 6:30-7:30.

You, my dear man, are obviously not a kitschy-trendy-spendy kind of guy. You take the doughnuts to the Japanese Garden.

Here's an idea. You can all drive two hours north to my house and help me tame my grove of collected hawthorns.

There are two bus trips to the Pacific Bonsai Museum in Federal Way (not far from Bunjeh's house), one on 26 Sep and the other on 27 Sep.
Yeah, this for sure. Well worth the time and trouble to get up there. If, If you have time to spend an extra few hours up that way, get to Elandan, - Dan Robinsons bonsai world.

Awesome that you'll be performing. We could be best friends. My favorite composer of all is J.S. Bach.

If I wasn't paying for my wedding in October I would so be there! Anyone want to sponsor me! Haha. Can't wait to see the photos. At $450 a plane ticket, price of hotel, and event tickets, sadly I can't justify it.

The Japanese Garden is definitely worth it. Voodoo donuts is good but not really worth the hype. If you are up for a drive both the pacific rim collection and Dan Robinson's garden are worth the trip. If I remember it is about a 3 hr trip each way. The national forestry museum is a good stop and it's near the Japanese gardens.

If you are into old planes about 1 hr south is the Evergreen Air Museum. They have the spruce goose and a SR-71.
