I am looking for a kogetsu satsuki azalea that does not cost an arm and a leg. Anyone know where I can but a starter of this variety?

Thanks

4" or Gallon material can probably be had from http://greenthumbbonsai.com. I either saw it there, or I have one of 'em tucked away ...but I'm pretty sure it was @ Green Thumb.

Frank, just curious, what is it about this particular cultivar that makes it special?

There are zillions of cultivars, and many are very similar.

Adair, I like the flowers of the kogetsu. The photos I have seen of it display nice white and a red that is deeper and less pinkish/purple with lots of variation in the coloration pattern. When I think of satsuki, that is the typical flowers in my opinion.

The variety seems rare. Rick Garcia had only one kogetsu that was out of my price range at the minute. I did purchase a Goho-no-hikari from Rick that ships next week. I also bought a Shin Nikko from David at http://www.satsukibonsai-en.com/. Both were repotted last year so no root work should be needed this season, just styling and growing fatter. And a few blooms of course. Add these two to our styling tasks next time you are at my house.

If you know a variety that is similar to the kogetsu flower and a source that ships, please share the source.

Thanks

Give Mark Comstock (pre-bonsai Mark) a look. You can find him on Facebook and send him a PM. I seem to recall he had good starts of several cultivars.
