I am building two at a time. One for me and one for a friend. A friend I traded a tree for. I chose this one from a Gafu Ten book. I like the simplicity and the function. It has to feel light and not bulky.
The dimensions will be 32" x 32" x 9".

The shelves are cut from plywood and will be framed with a thicker board to have an inset top. All of the tables in the Gafu Ten book were of this style.

All the frames are cut from solid wood.

The frame wood is run thru the planer and routed to recieve the shelving boards. The routing can be seen on the ends.

All of the frame compnents are cut out and sanded.

I was able to glue up most of the shelves. I laid out the frame of how it will look. The right shelf in the middle is not the correct one as I have to make it after the others were complete. It will provide a look though.

Will continue with more work tomorrow.

Also a man with a good eye and more patience than I.

I'll give you the "patience", but if he's still sanding his wood it'll end up a blind eye!

Very nice stand!

Looks good. I admire people with the ability to build things skillfully, and who can eat only one Twix.

My wife has the bag hidden. She buys those little itty bitty Easter wrapped Twix bars. I am addicted to them. She puts about four in the bowl a day with some snickers and milkey way. If only I could figure out where the bag is that feeds the bowl!

As someone with an 82 yo diabetic in the house
let me assure you it will be where you never thought
to look. Accept what those around you 'ration', as it
is not out of spite but a love deep enough to KNOW
you have no will power over chocolate.

Smoke,

That's very nice, but I wouldn't put anything large on the top shelf as in your sample pic. I can't imagine that it wouldn't sag in not too much time.

The sample looks to be metal tubing. Is your framing cherry?

Oh it will hold a tree all right. Built of alder wood. No the Japanese version is not metal tubing, it is wood.

Went back to work today since last weekend. Was able to get it all fastened together and do a rough sand. Still have to do the router work and then final sand.
